Black spots on the cover or in the spa is typically caused by algae growth. Eliminating algae is done by either shocking the water or by draining and refilling the spa.

Black spots can also be an indication of an elevated copper level in the water, usually from corrosion of the heater element caused by poor sanitation levels. If the spa's water management program is ignored or improperly serviced, the water's pH can drastically drop and cause these problems.

Make sure that you clean your cover and filters with low-sudsing cleaners and thoroughly rinse them with clean warm water.
