Unfortunately, scum lines around the water line in all spas are inevitable. This is a natural occurrence caused by the breakdown of minerals in the water with time. They adhere to the acrylic sides of the spa and you see them as scum lines.
Oily scum lines can come from natural body oils, skin softeners, beauty creams, suntan lotions, and oil-based fragrances. Taking a warm shower prior to bathing and rinsing thoroughly with clean warm water can help reduce these kinds of scum lines.
Shocking the water accelerates this condition. So spas that are heavily used and heavily shocked will have more scum lines than less used spas.
Scum lines are easily removed by regularly wiping down the acrylic before they build up. The longer a scum line is allowed to build on the sides of you spa, the more difficult it is to remove them.
Get in the habit of regularly wiping down the water line of your spa. Two hours after you shock your spa, wipe down the sides to prevent this buildup from occurring.
