Calcium scaling in your spa is usually caused by a high level of calcium in the tap water from the initial filling. The high water temperature in your spa naturally deposits this excess calcium onto your spa's surface faster than if the water were not heated. Deposits occur even faster when the water's pH is higher than normal.

To remove scaling you must refill your spa after soaking overnight in a vinegar solution (i.e., lower the pH to about 6.0) as described next:

  1. Add one full gallon of distilled white vinegar to the spa water

  2. Run all pumps and blowers for at least one hour

  3. Turn off these pumps and blowers and let the water sit in the spa uninterrupted overnight

  4. Using a nylon kitchen scouring pad, gently scrub the scaling from the spa surface

  5. Drain, rinse thoroughly with warm water, and refill the spa

  6. If calcium is in your tap water, use a stain and scale control available from most pool and spa dealers
