Suds buildup is usually caused by bathers who have soaps left on their skin, clothing (such as T-shirts), or bathing suits when they enter the spa.

The best way to eliminate suds is to first keep from introducing it. Take a soapless shower and make sure that you have rinsed off thoroughly with clean warm water. Rinse all bathing suits prior to putting them on in plenty of clean warm water.

The natural way to remove suds from a spa is to use 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar per day until the suds are gone. You can also use a "defoamer" available from your local spa dealer, however, such products are usually laden with oils and typically  leave a film or residue at the water lines. While vinegar takes longer to eliminate suds, it is less expensive to use and has no side effects.

Suds can also be caused by water that has a certain kind of algae in it. This algae is all but invisible during the suds phase but a few days later proudly displays is green color. See cloudy water on how to remove algae.
